"I  alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."

~  Mother Teresa ~

This Sunday, please be advised we will be worshiping online as a faith community. We may be healthy but this is bigger than the individual-- it is a community moment. We must avoid crowds to keep our vulnerable neighbors safe.

Please stay home and join us on Sunday August 2nd on fpc.church or our Facebook Page at 10 AM.

On Sunday August 2nd, Rev. Thorne will deliver the sermon "Begin Again"  based on Psalm 62  and Mark 1:14-20. Click here to view the worship bulletin.

Where to find us

We are located at 124 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights. There are many ways to get to First Presbyterian Church. We recommend public transit, walking, or bicycling. You can drive, though parking in the neighborhood is a challenge.

By public transit:  Take the 2 or 3 subway to Clark Street Station, the A or C to the High Street Station, the R to the Court Street Station, or the 4 or 5 to Borough Hall. By bus there are many choices: including the 103, 25, 26, 38, 41, and 52 lines. Consult the Trip Planner on the MTA website for your best option. Better yet, get an app for all your New York City transit needs.

By car: From Manhattan, take the Brooklyn Bridge to the first exit on the Brooklyn side (Cadman Plaza West).  Stay left as the exit splits.  Go through one light and take a left at the next intersection onto Henry Street.  The Church is on the right just past Clark Street.

From the Brooklyn Queens Expressway:  Take the Cadman Plaza West Exit, turn East onto Cadman Plaza West, then South onto Henry Street.

Parking:  Parking in the neighborhood is challenging. Public transit is recommended. Parking is not permitted on Henry Street in front of the church.  Parking on Clark Street is recommended. Cadman Plaza Garage at 75 Henry Street is a public parking garage one block away from the church.

Here is a map of our location, and driving directions from your starting point are available.

A warm smile greets every visitor to First Presbyterian.

What to expect

You can expect to be welcomed with a smile and a program that will explain the worship service and current events around the church. You can dress casually or dress up; it doesn't matter to us! You can sit wherever you would like, but if you really want to feel a part of the group from your first day, why not try sitting in the middle or toward the front? If you have children who would rather spend time with other children, ask one of the ushers for directions to childcare or how the Sunday School works. An usher can introduce your child and you to a responsible adult who can reassure both of you that Sunday School (or childcare) will be fun, safe, and a great way to meet some others!

Worship services are relatively informal, but follow a typical Protestant format. There is singing, followed by prayers, readings, music, and preaching. Most of what you will need to know is in the program that you get at the door. The Sunday worship service lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. Children sit with their parents for the first part, and leave for Sunday School about 20 minutes into the service. They return to sit with their families again near the end of the service.

Early in the service we will welcome all newcomers, and we may ask you to stand and tell us your name and where you are from. This is not to embarass you, but so that people will know your name during the greeting time and later, after church is over. You might be surprised to find out that someone lives near where you live, or is from your hometown!

After the service everyone is invited to go upstairs for some coffee, juice, and snack food, and to meet with others who either already come to First Presbyterian or, maybe like you, are here for the first time.

Childcare and Children's Activities

Your children are welcome at First Presbyterian Church. They may sit with you, or they can stay with our childcare givers during worship. Older children may attend Sunday School where they will be with children of their own age and will have plenty of fun and educational activities while you worship. An usher can help you find the right kind of situation for you and your children.
